  • Creator
  • Jason Butler

  • Unit of Description
  • Interface Controller

  • Level of Description
  • Mounting foam backed with numeric insignia and ReacTIVision fiducial marker used for controlling audio samples with the Looptop tangible interface.

  • Provenance
  • I created this marker for the Sound Practice module of my degree, as a controller for my Looptop.

  • Associations
  • I consider this a salient example of ephemera - an object which served a purpose for a ten minute demonstration to facilitate the marking of a piece of coursework and then became obsolete. The looptop is now stored in the attic, the marks have been awarded and it now sits on a shelf - occasionally picked up and inspected by my daughter.
  • The main memory associated with this item now is one of Alfred Brendel a concert pianist with a love of the surreal. I saw him on the Culture Show and he immediately became one of my favourite humans. He recited some of his surrealist poetry - and I sampled this and used this Looptop marker to trigger and manipulate it - the most salient phrase being "there is no sense without nonsense".
